"How to Nurturing Faith and Trust While Being a Mom in Uncertain Times"

Introduction:

Parenting 3 kids in today's fast-paced and chaotic world presents u challenges, especially when it comes to imparting spiritual values to our children. As a mother, your role in teaching your kids about God becomes even more crucial. This article explores the importance of nurturing faith in children and offers practical tips for moms to navigate this journey in a crazy world.

1. Embrace Open Dialogue:

In a world where conflicting beliefs and values abound, open dialogue is crucial. I maintain an open dialogue approach with my children. If they make a mistake (as we all do) but choose to come to me and have the courage to be truthful, there will be no interrogation or punishment (with a few exceptions such as illegal activities, etc.). I have come to realize that we all require compassion, and making mistakes is an opportune time to seek solace in God! This practice also helps in developing character, particularly when responding with compassion and forgiveness rather than judgment. Let's face it, we all desire our children to have a better life than ours and avoid repeating the same errors, but we understand that they will stumble, and that's ok. While there are moments when my disappointment may overshadow, I remind myself that I too need compassion and forgiveness, and there is nothing more detrimental than being kicked when you're down. Encourage your children to ask questions (even the tough or embarrassing ones), express their uncertainties, and explore diverse viewpoints. By creating an atmosphere of open communication, you can guide them towards a deeper comprehension of God's teachings and delve into their identity, aspirations, and eventual selves.

2. Lead by Example:

Children learn by observing their parents' genuine and consistent faith, including witnessing prayers, kindness, moral decision-making, and handling mistakes. Being accountable, showing love, and living in faith are crucial. Actions speak louder than words. Embrace opportunities to grow in faith and follow Jesus. I always tell my kids no matter what happens (of course there's no toleration for abuse or bullying, etc.) that it’s 10% what happens to you and 90% in how you conduct yourself in these situations. Having integrity and character is essential for developing into a well-rounded individual.

3. Incorporate Devotions:

Establishing a devotional routine can help instill God's presence in your children's lives through short Bible passages, prayers, and spiritual discussions. Praying for others teaches compassion and empathy, fostering responsibility, kindness, and generosity.

4. Addressing Challenges as they come:

The crazy world we live in presents unique challenges for parents, different from what our parents experienced. Sometimes seemingly impossible tasks, like why are you on your phone or computer 24/7!! LOL!!! Remember when our parents sent us outside and said "Don't come back until the street lights come on"? LOL! Ahhh, the good old days! It's so important to discuss topics such as kindness, forgiveness, empathy, and inclusivity with your children, for themselves and others. Help them understand how their faith can guide them in navigating these challenges and making positive choices, using examples of when it was evident in my life when God shows up!

5. Seek Community Support:

Building a community of like-minded individuals can provide invaluable support in raising spiritually well adjusted kids. Connect with local churches, parenting groups, or online communities that share similar values. Together, you can find strength and guidance in navigating the complexities of the world.

6. Foster Critical Thinking:

Empower your children with the ability to think critically, enabling them to assess and judge various ideas and beliefs. Educate them on how to use discretion between truth and falsehood, as the Bible says to "be wise as a serpent but harmless as a dove," Matthew 10:16 and to establish their beliefs on a strong basis of knowledge and comprehension. The Bible serves as a guide and a source of great wisdom. I consistently remind them that the God they worship is the Prince of Peace, offering a peace that transcends all understanding.

Conclusion:

As a mom, teaching kids about God in this crazy world is noble and rewarding. Through open dialogue, devotions, addressing challenges, seeking community support, and encouraging critical thinking, you can nurture their faith and build apon their character. Your commitment to their spiritual growth will shape their lives and guide them towards a meaningful relationship with God. God's so GOOD all the time!! I tell my kids all the time when prayer becomes your habit, miracles become your lifestyle!!

This is my viewpoint on the journey of life! I am also a child of God and feel grateful that God has entrusted me with the privilege of being a mother. He consistently leads me as I fulfill my role as a parent! Thank you, God, for your unwavering faithfulness and goodness!

Blessings,

Desiree Fox
